What is a back contracture?

A contracture arises when a muscle works more than it is capable of, either intensely, punctual or maintained said work, causing exaggerated inflammation of the muscle, causing a lump in the area, in this case, in the back. Due to the bulk, colloquially we call "knot" to a contracture of the back.

A back contracture is not only caused by overstrength the back, or sustained inappropriate movements, but also because of the lack of power in the back, result of previous injuries, operations and even lack of physical activity. Some astronauts suffer from loss of bone and muscle mass after months without gravity in space.

The back contracture causes pain because the back contains the transmitting nerves information from the brain, so it directly activates the pain nerves contained in it, the pain being very intense and radiating at times.

The contracture also decreases blood flow, causing a loop, because the lack of irrigation also causes contractures, and the lack of blood, also activates pain nerves, and when the loop starts, weakens the muscles, causing frequent contractures.

That's why it's key exercise and strengthen your back and your muscles, whatever the origin of the contracture.

What causes a back strain?

As we have mentioned before, the main origin of a back contracture is excess effort, but we want to be clearer so that you can prevent it.

● Subjecting the back to an effort greater than it can withstand, either suddenly, repetitive or by resistance
● When we want to do a task with weak back muscles, being practically the same effect as the previous point
● A sedentary lifestyle weakens the muscles, noticeably lowering your maximum strength
● Wrong postures held for a long time or repeated many times, how to carry something with your back turned, study with your head to your chest, standing for a long time in a bad position, etc.
● By a sudden jerky movement, for instance, do gymnastics without warming up or without adequate physical condition
● Stress or anxiety can cause a contraction of the back muscles

The exercise: key to prevention and treatment

We assume that this experience is enough for you to want to avoid having another… if you haven't had one, ask someone who has had it: you'll wish you didn't have one.

Both to prevent and treat, physical exercise is key, as it strengthens the back muscles and increases the level of resistance in strong or sudden movements and increases the level of tolerance for inappropriate movements.

Experts recommend fitness exercises such as walking, bicycle, and run, in addition to exercises to strengthen the abdomen. Instead, do not recommend any exercises that involve twisting your back or that involve carrying or holding, for instance, weightlifting or throwing objects.

It is recommended to do the exercises at least three times a week and take breaks every 30 O 60 minutes, depending on the duration of your routine.

we won't talk, as on other occasions, of treatments or remedies, as they can only be prescribed by a doctor, otherwise, you can cause irreparable damage of another type. If you have a contracture, go to your doctor and hopefully you will recover soon and that this information will help you prevent any other contracture or injury.
